This is one of the first songs I ever wrote as a solo artist. Originally, the song was called The Surgeon and the track was much darker. The whole song compares an evangelistic conversation to a surgeon performing open heart surgery. So, using humor and telling jokes is like administering laughing gas. Analogies are likened to giving the patient a sedative. etc.
Originally, in the second verse, the patient actually did not make it out of surgery. But in 2004, Cross Movement Ministries put together a free evangelistic give-away CD called "The Track." I rewrote the second verse at that time and, what do you know...the patient lived-eternally.
